The Shelborne X The Staycationers
Staycation_TheShelbourne-47.jpg

It’s no secret that South Beach is known for glitzy yacht life and a wild club scene. But what if I told you there is more…that there is rich history in a lot of these buildings beckoning tourists and locals to relish in all its glamorously restored glory? Welcome to The Shelborne, where the storied elegance of the 1950s surrounds you, and the modern edge of the 21st century entertains you. Join Yelany (of @Le.Haute.Sauce), Yesi Flores (@simplylively behind the camera) and I for a relaxing Miami staycay.

THE SPOT: The Shelborne | 1801 Collins Ave, Miami Beach

THE STATS: Recently renovated, 200 rooms, 1 iconic pool, plush air-conditioned cabanas, beach access, eclectic restaurant spearheaded by “Top Chef” alumni (NOTE: at the time this article was written, the restaurant was newly opened. It has since closed its doors.)

PERFECT FOR: A vintage vogue Miami experience with a refreshingly modern feel, perfect for any relaxing, yet stylish, getaway

BEAUTY AND THE BUBBLY

Walk with us past vintage VW food truck and under the retro-chic Shelborne sign to get this staycay started. We are greeted with bubbly and led to the library. The Library Lounge, that is.

POOL DAZE

After slipping into something a little more comfortable and pool-appropriate, thanks to on-site shop Indie Soul, we were ready to get our lounge on at The Shelborne’s iconic pool, cabana massages included. Warning: the following images may cause extremely relaxing vibes.

THE SUITE LIFE

Time to shake things up and get glammed up by the ultimate beauty crew, GLAMSQUAD. Our suite went from 0 to a 100 real quick and a fuse may or may not have been blown, literally (sorry hotel maintenance!). But we were up and running, and the rosé was flowing.

DINERS’ PARADISE

Table for three please! After a full day of R&R, we were eager to taste the contemporary cuisine of The Shelborne’s Sarsaparilla Club, led by husband-and-wife duo and Top Chef alumni Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth. By fusing Cantonese Dim Sum and American Comfort Food, the restaurant showcases soul-nurturing, conscientiously sourced, farm-fresh dishes. Now would be the time to put a bib on (read: DROOL).

*NOTE: Sarsaparilla Club is now closed.

NIGHTCAPS

After a serious dinner, we made our way to the Drawing Room Bar & Lounge where we enjoyed beautifully crafted elixirs to cap off the night, but not before being greeted by a vibey, very appropriate neon sign that read: “Too much is never enough.” No doubt a reference to life’s pleasures, or perhaps to our affinity for rosé.

MORNING MUSINGS

Sleek art deco-inspired details, breakfast in bed, and relaxing ocean views are the perfect way to end our stay at The Shelborne. We bid adieu to the hotel with one last walk around the grounds and a cup of coffee for the road.
