This Is My January '20 Playlist

by Jana Rose

1. This month’s playlist is all about tropical rhythms and world grooves that will make you want to dance all your 2019 troubles away. First up: a low-key banger, “Blanco,” by none other than J Balvin.

2. Percussionist and producer James Stewart is a resident DJ at the critically acclaimed culture/dance club Le Sucre in Lyon, France with a monthly afrohouse-centric event, “Black Atlantic.” Stewart also founded the Blog Afrosouldescarga.

3. This song screams 17-year-old me riding around in the car windows down, after having spent the whole damn morning/day/afternoon at Ocean Park Beach, Puerto Rico. #IYKYK

4. If this song doesn’t make you want to move your hips, don’t even talk to me.

5. Blue Hawaii is an electronic duo working between Montreal & Berlin. They are self-described as ‘dreamy electro-pop with certain tracks focusing on dance-floor playability.’

6. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE FUN, SKIP THIS TRACK.

7. “Te están llamando las cosas buenas…” or “The good things are calling you…” a catchy hook, a feel-good song.

8. Sade needs no remixing, no re-working, because she is the QUEEN. But this song by Cottonbelly plays off of Sade’s haunting vocals nicely for a vibey beach-side sunset track.

9. After the sun has set, play this for happy hour vibes and to transition into the night.

10. This beautiful cumbia is the perfect way to enjoy a nightcap with friends (preferably mezcal, shout out to Donna & Marco @lifeoverstuff).
